Searching For Your Home

There are many places to begin looking for your home. No matter where you look, always remember to keep your agent informed. This means calling when you find a home in a magazine, when you drive by a house for sale, or if you find something on the internet. Your agent will be able to get you all of the necessary information on each house and set up an appointment to view the home.

Here are a few of the most common ways people find their new home:

From Their REALTOR®
This is one of the more significant decisions you will make during you transaction. This is the person with whom you will share all of your financial information and who will be along side you throughout the entire process once you find a home. You should feel comfortable with them and confident they are looking out for your best interests. Feel free to shop around for a lender who can offer you a loan that best suits your needs. Do you need 100% financing? Are you trying to avoid mortgage insurance? Is an adjustable rate loan a better option? These are all things a qualified lender can help you decide. Bob Firestone and Company can help you find a lender who is right for you. Simply check our ‘Reputable Professionals’ list on our web site.

By Driving Around
It is inevitable that you will see a home for sale that interests you while you are driving around. When you have your own agent, all you need to do is jot down the address and your agent will be able to provide information on the home.

In Magazines
There are many wonderful publications such as Homes & Land and Harmon Homes that showcase homes for sale. Looking through these magazines can give you a good idea what types of homes are for sale and what their typical prices are. If you find one you like, simply let your agent know what page the house was on and they should be able to find more information for you. Keep in mind there is usually a delay of about 3 weeks in between an agent submitting the ad and the magazine being published. For this reason many of the listings in the magazine may already be under contract.

Through Friends
When your friends, co-workers, and family find out that you are looking for a home it is quite common for them to suggest certain areas or even a home they have seen for sale. Again this is a great way to get information on neighborhoods and schools. If you find something you are interested in (such as a particular high school), let your Realtor® know and they can limit the search to that area.

On the Internet
In today’s technology-filled world, the internet is the first place most people begin to look for homes. It is an invaluable resource for gathering information about the current market and even on specific properties. Please check out the “REAL ESTATE LINKS” section of our web site for a complete list of places to search. Again, once you find something you are interested in, just let your agent know the address or MLS# and they can get information or line up a time to show you the property.

Being an educated, informed buyer is an advantage when you go to buy a home. Use as many of these resources as you can when you are looking for a home to ensure you have found the best home possible!
